"I've heard that most kids our age don't," Natya told the girl. "I found out when I was little because of a merchant family that my father knows well. Their elder was able to detect magic in other people. She trained me for a year when I was little." She pulled her bow out and showed it to the girl. "These runes are for power and accuracy. I taught myself about them." She channeled a tiny portion of her power into the bow's runes. They glowed blue for a few moments before Natya stopped her flow of power. "I don't know much in the way of healing and elemental magics yet, but I'm going to learn when we get to the Hall. Maybe we can learn together?" She smiled softly.
"I think I'd like an Aryvol too," Natya replied to Kearin. "They seem like very helpful creatures." She turned back to the girl. "My name's Natya. Natya Atrina. May I ask your own?"

Wraith listened to her curiously as she explained how she knew herself, then, when she made the runes glow, her eyes widened slightly, before rising to her face once more. "Maybe," hse said, a little shyly. "Healing and ice seem to be all I can do," she added. "And I don't even know what it is I'm doing. The ice only shows up when I'm scared or threatened..."
When she spoke of wanting an Aryvol, Wraith was very tempted to leave for a few minutes. She knew where a Merchant selling the little beasts' eggs was placed, but she didn't have any money, so couldn't get her one as a thank you for her explanation and almost offer of friendship. Not the accepted way anyways. "Wraith," she replied to the question of her name. She was a little ashamed she had no last name that gave her a family, but she had accepted it long ago.

A small frown crossed Gideon's face, an uncommon feature for the usually chipper boy. Runes? He hadn't done really anything involving such a thing. His abilities really centered around moving things and talking to people with his mind, that and he seemed to have a strong ability to feel the emotions of others, but he wasn't sure if that was just him or an actual ability.
Nevertheless, he knew he had to give it his best. His mother and his sisters were counting on him to give everything and then some and the last thing he wanted to do is let them down. Closing his eyes, he concentrated. He had no clue if he was doing anything right, but hopefully they would recognize his effort and let him through. To try so hard and only make a fool of himself would no doubt bring shame to the family. He could already here the whispers now. 'There's the woman with the boy child who failed the test.' 'Yes, what a poor woman, she must be so ashamed.' With renewed eagerness, he focused his energy into the rune, the green stone on his wrist giving a faint glow.
With a gasp, he dropped the leather, sucking at where the flame had licked his thumb. He did it! He really did it! Removing the appendage from his mouth he looked up at the man with gleeful pride, awaiting his approval.

Kearin was mildly amused by the girls discussing, and so he focused mostly on testing Gideon instead. He was quite pleased when the boy managed to catch it on fire and he caught the leather before it hit the ground. "Very good," he stated. "Zephril?" he questioned, looking at his dragon.
The brown turned his head and looked down at Gideon. Can you hear me, little magician? he questioned in the boy's head, wanting to see if he had the mental capability for the dragons.
Kearin in the meanwhile started to test a few others there in order get the show on the road. As soon as their abilities were confirmed by Zephril, they could go and the party could start in Kamyrr.

Natya smiled at the girl. "That's easy," she said. "The ice is your body's way of defending itself. A natural defense mechanism. Father said that everyone has one, but that every person's is different. Like the way different forest animals defend themselves. Some have horns that they can fight with, others have claws, while others still are just huge and could easily kill you by falling on you." She saw the other boy being Tested. "Looks like we might go back to the Hall soon. Oh, I can't wait until next year! We'll be able to care for eggs of our own, then we'll have Dragons too!"
Then the girl introduced herself. "Wraith?" Natya echoed. "I like it." She smiled, not asking about the unmentioned last name. It wasn't her place to ask. If Wraith wanted to tell her, she'd do it when she was ready.

She nodded and watched the goings on curiously, wondering. The boy seemed to be having trouble making the Rune react, and she cocked her head slightly. Even though the dragon had already claimed her for the Hall, she wondered if she was going to have to make it light up to. She didn't know HOW... Just as she didn't know how to read, or write, or even about the history and rules, the regulations, regarding the Halls. She knew shamefully little, but her upbringing had forced her to focus on survival and hiding. She hadn't been able to go to school or find someone to teach her to read or write. She hadn't even known she possessed any Talent of note...

Gideon waited a moment and then soon heard the dragon's voice ring clear in his head.
Yes, I hear you. He thought in return, but unsure if that would work, repeated the statement out loud. His voice matched his eyes, filled with wonder, excitement and awe, any nervousness or fear was already gone as he took a step closer to the dragon, tilting his head to look over the mighty beast's full body.
"You're so beautiful," he said softly, as if more to himself than any one else.

Zephril hummed approvingly as the boy spoke in return to him, and he leaned down to nose him towards the other accepted Trainees. There was quite a list growing now that his 'warrior had gotten his act together. Together the team worked through all the children gathered and took the ones that had past. Kearin smiled at the group he had gathered here in Kamyrr. It was a decent size too, 14 trainees in all. But he knew that over half of them would transfer to different Halls as soon as they could. No one stayed at East Hall for very long.
He bit back his sigh and then smiled at them once more. "Alright, now that everyone is ready, let's go to the Hall!" His smile was bright and infectious, and several others smiled back at him. He gestured for them to climb on Zeph and the dark element dragon teleported them all quickly there, safe and sound. It paid to have a dragon with strong control.
