A Clutch of eggs sits on the hearth in the kitchen, covered with hot ashes and guarded constantly by the smokey blue Moonstone and the wild Obsidian Yandori King that caught her the week before. Sixteen small mounds lie under the ashes, with more falling off the eggs each day as they harden. Each egg has subtle differences, including color and size. Some have already started to guess at the colors within the eggs.
The largest egg, a pale peach color laced with pastels, sits in the center, by an empty space where Moonpool rests when there is little activity in the kitchens, and is constantly guarded by the mother. Nearby is another large egg, slightly smaller and white with specks of light brown. Not too far away from the largest egg is an egg of average size, such a dark color it appears to be royal purple.
The rest of the eggs are farther away from the center group, and yet grouped together by size. The six smallest eggs sat in a group, three and three, each a different compilation of browns and greys, with the three smaller eggs taking shades of dark, forest green. Two more eggs, larger than the group of six, rest nearby. One egg is a dark blue-grey, while the other is a deep brown-gold. Another group of two sits on the other side of the circle of ashes, both a bright red color that one would not expect to find in a Clutch of eggs. Another two sit in the back, closest to the hearth, almost going unnoticed with their seemingly uninteresting shells of beige streaked with brown and grey. The farthest egg from the mother, pushed to the front of the Clutch, is a single egg with a mix of colors that spiral around each other, orange and blue-grey and black.
People who come too close to the Clutch before Hatching day are going to get hissed at. The Moonstone mother is incredibly protective over her first Clutch.
