Mid-Afternoon
The kitchens were a bustle of activity and noise, and she could hear a slightly irritated squeaking noise from in there as well that she could only assume was the Yandori everyone kept saying had Clutched in there. But as curious as Quiera was to see the eggs and their mother(she LOVED Yandorei), she was more hungry at this exact moment in time. So she got herself some bread, cheese, fruits and water and thanked the cook before moving to sit and eat her lunch. Her eyes wandered around, their pale depths intent as they searched the room before her, her staff leaned against the stone wall near to hand and her back also against the cool stone. She knew the Testing was soon, if not already done and over with, but that didn't concern her as anything more than a piece of information. She was already a Trainee, and her year was about up. She'd come here shortly after turning fifteen, and her sixteenth birthday had been a week ago, causing her great excitement as she'd realized that day that she was so much closer to her dream than when she'd started.
And now, there were rumors flying that the Dragonlady's dragon was going to clutch soon. She wanted to know if they were true or not, but she hadn't had a chance to stop and ask anyone, between her archery, history and 'Warrior classes.

The Carmine Aryvol scampered around the kitchen floor, looking for scraps of plants and dropped nuts from the chefs, the month-old creature doing her best to go undetected. However, the attempt went unsuccessfully as she was soon caught by her Bonded, the tall redheaded boy who had named her. She chirped at him, trying to apologize. He rolled his eyes at her.
"I told you I could get the food for you," Aren told the Carmine. "Ro, you've gotta keep near me. I don't want anything to happen to you." The Moss Aryvol chirped at Ro, appearing from seemingly nowhere and standing on Aren's shoulder. "Ricken, not now," Aren said, interrupting him. "Let's just get some food for you both. And for me as well." He grabbed some fruits, bread, cheese, and water for himself, then a bowl of nuts and vegetables for the two Aryvole to share. "Be nice you two," he told them as he took a piece of bread and bit into it. He sat down at one of the tables and the Aryvole climbed down from his shoulders and started eating. He smiled softly watching them. He liked coming in after the main meal hours were over. It was one of the few moments he got alone with his two pets. He hadn't noticed one of the girls from his Trainee class standing nearby, or he would not have let such emotion show on his face.

She heard the commotion and looked over, smiling as she caught sight of the little creature scurrying across the floor. She liked Aryvole, although she preferred the serpentine Yandorei, but even then. She watched the little critter get caught up by the one she could only assume was its Blood-Bound by how passive she was, and the other one on his shoulder as well. Smiling once more, she leaned back in her seat, pale clothing shifting faintly in the shadows where she sat.
She was not eavesdropping, she was merely observing, but she saw the softness he showed the little ones. She recognized him from her Trainee class, where she knew him to be cold, stubborn and a bit of a hard-nose. So this softness was a novelty to her, one she could only assume came from the little Aryvole.

Ricken suddenly saw the girl sitting nearby, and he chirped in surprised alarm. Aren quickly turned his head and went over to the girl, his face scrunched with sudden anger. He grasped her wrist tightly, as opposed to the neck of her shirt where he would've grabbed another male, pressing it to the wall behind her, and put his face close to hers.
"Don't you dare tell anyone what you just saw!" he ordered softly, so none of the kitchen workers would hear. "Understand?!" When she promised not to, he let her go and turned around, his back now to her to hide his embarrassment. He tried to remember where he saw the girl, besides the fact that she was in his Trainee class. He didn't think she was a Hall-born child like himself, seeing as he hadn't met her before the Testing Day the year previous. He stuck his hands in the pockets of his trousers and went back to his two Aryvole. Rosetta looked up at him, chittering, confused. She jumped from table to table until she was in front of the girl. Aren sighed.
"Ro, stop it," he told the Carmine, his voice softer. She turned to him and chirped. She looked back at the girl before scampering back to the table where her Bonded waited. She went back to the bowl of nuts and veggies, sticking more to the nuts than the greens. Ricken, on the other hand, wasn't picky. He was more wary of the stranger than the young one was. The Moss made sure he wasn't too far from his Bonded's arm. Rosetta kept looking over to the girl as she ate, though, wanting to make friends more than her antisocial Aren. He noticed, but she didn't want to make him mad, and so Rosetta stayed nearby.

As he came over, his face angry, Quiera's eyes widened in alarm, and her hand shot out towards her staff, only to be intercepted and pushed back against the wall, causing a painful twist in her shoulder that had her hissing. For his words, she glared at him, unimpressed by his little display, but she had a sense he wouldn't release her until she agreed, and her shoulder was REALLY starting to hurt. "Fine, whatever," she snapped, then bit her lip as she was released, pain shooting up her arm when she dropped it.
"Men," she snarled softly as he strode away, still glaring at his back as she rubbed her shoulder. This was why she didn't like them. They were too aggressive, too much the mentality of "If I can overpower it, it's okay to to do so." As she saw the little Carmine looking at her from her own table, she gave her a gentle smile, but before she could greet her, she was called back. Sighing, she watched them a little longer, kneading gently when the pain didn't subside. Growling under her breath, she rose and put her empty plate on the bar section, then moved to leave.

Ricken chirped at Aren, sending a feeling of regret to his Bonded. Aren sighed. "Oh, give it a rest Ricken..." he muttered. He turned back toward the girl, softly wrapping his hand around her other wrist. "Wait..." he asked quietly, softly. Ro skittered across his arm to hers, then to Quiera's shoulder. The Carmine tilted her head, looking worriedly at the girl. Aren let go of her wrist, then sighed.
"I... I'm sorry..." he said after a moment. "I just..." He sighed again, irritated at himself. "I've never been good around others... Not really..." He was bumbling around, so to speak, with his words. He wasn't being his normal, cold self. His cheeks pinked just a little bit more than normal. His ears began to redden. He wasn't sure what to say.
"I... I haven't dealt with girls in a... In a long time..." He stumbled over his words. He looked at her, his smokey blue eyes shining with remorse. "I just... Have a hard time... Getting to know people... I just... I... I'm sorry." Ro chirped again.
"Rosetta seems to like you," Aren said with a soft laugh. "She's only a month old... If you'd like, I could help you search the jungle to find a nest, if you want one." Now that was a topic he liked. Ricken chirped indignantly. "Oh, this one's Ricken. He doesn't usually like strangers, though. If he likes you, then... Well..." His ears reddened again. He didn't want to actually say the words we could get along, but he at least wanted to make up for his actions. He didn't like it when he hurt a girl... No matter what the reason.

As he grabbed her wrist, much more gently this time, she halted, looking to her and immediately reading the tone of his eyes. Relaxing-she'd been about to snap at him-she heard him out, smiling as Rosetta clambered up her shoulder and looked at her. When she was released, she patiently continued to wait, listening to him curiously. His stumbling as he spoke was almost cute, and was enough for her to forgive him the pain in her shoulder.
When he offered to help her find an Aryvole nest, her pink eyes brightened with interest, and she motioned to the chair across from him, careful not to unseat his baby. "May I?" she inquired curiously. She was more inclined towards the Yandorei, but if he wanted to help her with this as an apology, she was not about to argue with him.

He was glad she listened to him. He looked at her shoulder. "I could try to heal that for you, if you'd like," he offered. "I'm not strong enough to completely heal it, but I could take away some of the pain."
He sat down across the table from her. "I'm pretty good at finding the nests," he said sheepishly. "I found both Ricken and Ro in the wild. Made a few kids jealous when I brought Ricken back to the nursery, actually. Oh, I was born here," he explained quickly. "And they are incredibly helpful. Well, when they're older. Little ones tend to be a bit needy for the first month or so." Ro chirped at him, causing him to laugh.
"Oh... Um... If you wouldn't mind not telling the rest of the Trainee class...?" he asked softly. "I'd rather not have them know..." His ears went red again. He didn't really like someone knowing about his soft side, but he could deal with it because it was her.

She gave him a gently understanding smile and shook her head. "No, it's alright actually. It'll go away soon enough," she reassured him. As he continued, her eyes again brightened with interest. "Really?" she asked curiously when he spoke of being born there. "What was that like?" She then flushed faintly. "I've been here a year and you're the first person I've met who was actually born here, as surprising as that is. Course, my classes keep me pretty busy..." She motioned to his two pets. "That's actually why I don't have a pet of some sort. Not because I can't. Just because I don't have time to go find one."

She hadn't met anyone else that was Hall-born. Not too much of a surprise, actually. "Most of the children here choose to train at another Hall for a change of scenery," he told her. "Or they decide not to take the Test at all. I decided to stay because I like the jungle around here. I like to explore it a lot. It gives me a sense of freedom, of peace that I didn't often get in the nursery. Now, it's familiar. But usually the Aryvole nests are up in the trees, so you normally have to climb to find them. Or you can just wait a few months. Ro's a Clutching female, even if she's not a high-ranking one." He looked over at the Yandori mother, currently sitting on her bed of ashes near the largest of her eggs. "And there is that one. I bet that egg she's guarding is either another Moonstone, or an Opal." He turned back to her. "What do you think?" Then he remembered that he didn't exactly remember her name. "Um... I'm Aren, by the way." He hoped he wouldn't have to ask for her name. He didn't want her to think he was an idiot.

She listened to him curiously, hand rising slightly to allow it to be sniffed by the Carmine on her shoulder. Should she accept it, she was willing to give her pets as well, and she nodded when he spoke of the desire for a change of scenery. "I can see that," she said thoughtfully. "Can get boring when things don't change that often. Unless you're someone who prefers that," she added. When he spoke of the nests, she once more nodded, considering his words. His motioning to the Yandori had her smiling, and she considered the egg, as well as the mother. "I'm gonna say Opal, personally. Moonstones are rare, so an Opal is just more likely." She shrugged the unburdened shoulder. "I like both species, personally. Wouldn't mind having one of either, or one of both." She chuckled. "Although I'm not sure if that's wise, seeing as, hopefully, I'll be caring for a dragon egg soon..."
