Edowlyn tapped her foot lightly as she shuffled through the parchment in her hands, scanning over the lesson plans. Really, you would think she would know this stuff by now having been Headmistress for the Trainees for two years now. But no, of course not. She still had to peruse her notes and figure out what she was supposed to start with. Especially since the new trainees would be coming in today. She let out a sigh and ran a hand through her hair before she shook her head to settle it into place. She took a seat at the table that served as her desk, spreading her papers across it before settling them into the correct order. Any minute now the Trainees would begin to arrive and she would begin to teach them the History of Shai. Really she should have combined the Dragonwarrior and Shai classes at this rate. Oh well, something to keep in mind for the future. The Trainees had started to file in and take seats, and she gazed at them. "Good morning," she stated once they were seated. "As you know, this is the History of Shai. Now, our nation's history should be pretty familiar to you at this point as your parents should have told you some of it. Or perhaps you were here last year and you're simply sitting through the classes again in order to take up your time before a dragon clutches." She stood and moved to stand in front of her desk. "Now, which one of you can tell me what Shai was before the Dragonwarrior's changed everything?" she asked. She might as well go start at the basics.
Trainees in Attendance Quiera Wraith Gideon Alan
This will be a circle posting style. There are approximately five rounds (there may be more, or there may be less depending) between now and the end of this thread in order to complete it for your Trainee lessons requirement. Edowlyn will often asks questions to certain Trainees and she expects to get a complete answer. Don't be afraid to ask questions yourself though!

Quiera
Her pale hair gleamed softly in its tight braid as she strode down the hallway towards the room, sticking to the inner wall so as to be as out of the way as possible. She was dressed in a pale, icy blue gown with silver accents at the throat, cuffs and hemline, and a silver belt with little bells on it jingled merrily with each step she took. In one hand, her staff, its topaz glinting in the light, but dormant for now. In the other, a sheaf of notes she been keeping over the past year. She slid into the classroom in front of a very skinny girl who looked a little out of place and uncomfortable and moved to her seat, then waited patiently while others came in, including several new Trainees she would have to learn the names of to stay ahead of the game.
Wraith
She was nervous. There was no other word for, the sweating palms, the dryness in her mouth and the avid desire to run away. But no, she had to do this. She had to better herself, and this was the only way. Since she'd arrived, she'd been fitted for new clothing, but none of it was finished yet, so she wore the same old clothes, ragged and patched, but far cleaner than they'd been in awhile. She was happy with that, at least until she saw the elegant young woman who went in in front of her. Then she shied back a little, only to be bumped by someone else and forced to go inside with a shame-faced apology. She went to the back of the class, where she could essentially hide, and seated herself, worrying her thumbnail. She didn't know how to read or write, she'd never been taught. So how was she supposed to get by? There was no way she was going to remember a year's worth of schooling....

~~ Gideon Harver~~ He was late. It was his first day and of course he had to be late, that just had to be his luck. That's how things went right? Didn't help that even laying down he seemed to be a klutz and literally fell out of bed this morning. While he appeared chipper, he was already missing home. That was actually the reason he was running so late, he was used to his sisters waking him up in the mornings and with out his usual alarm he had over slept. Even when he had woken his was sluggish and disoriented by his new surroundings. He would have to get used to things much quicker if he wanted to keep up.
Rounding the corner he bounced from foot to foot almost frantically as he looked either way down the hall. "Which way was it?" he muttered to himself with a small moan before suddenly remembering and dashing down the hall. Just as he reached the classroom door his shoe came loose from his foot and he fell to his hands and knees, grateful his face hadn't met the floor as well. With the spots that had made contact throbbing he hurriedly stood and scopped up his shoe, entering the class. He took a seat in the back, breathing heavily and glancing around the room. There wasn't very many people, but the way the teacher looked expectantly around the room, he was sure he had already missed something.

Quiera
Quiera remained silent, feeling it wouldn't quite be fair of her to answer the question, seeing as she was only here because there were no eggs to care for yet. When the young man came in, shoe in hand rather than on his foot, one pale brow rose in amusement, but she remained silent. Her gaze traveled around the room again, once more taking in the other Trainees in in thoughtful silence. Many new faces, but how many would remain? she wondered idly, glancing back to Edowlyn.
Wraith
Wraith was eager to learn, but no one had yet to supply an answer to the woman's question, and she pursed her lips. She didn't know it, sadly or else she would provide it. Resting her chin in her hand, she toyed with one brown lock, curling it around her finger, then releasing it, only to repeat the movement once again. Was ANYONE going to reply? The albino looked like she knew, but she was remaining silent for some reason.

Alan had slid into the room shortly after a couple of others, taking his seat towards the back. Since he was here just to pass the time away, he didn't see the need for interacting with many of the others. Oh, he knew that he should, but hey, that was him. He sat in silence as Edowlyn asked her question and tried to get an answer out of the students in the class. When no one answered he sighed and raised his hand.
Edowlyn gave him a grateful look before calling on him. "Yes, Alan?"
"Shai was a desolate place, filled with war and mayhem that we cannot comprehend anymore," he said calmly.
She nodded. "Quite right. Now, Shai was still a monarchy at that time, but we were ruled by very cruel kings that were greedy only for themselves and took quite a bit from the citizens and required all magic users to be registered and trained in the army. It was considered enslavement then, being put to work in the army. No magic user was free, and many of our ancestors were forced against the dragons and made to slay them. They were seen as a pest to the land, even though they were here before us."
She paused and looked around the room for a short amount of time before settling her eyes on Quiera. "Ah, Quiera. Could you tell us why they were seen as a pest?" she asked.

Quiera
The albino was quiet as she listened and watched, her lips twitching as Alan answered the question, almost reluctantly. When called on herself, she cocked her head faintly, toying with the end of her braid. "Because they raided livestock and killed the knights and warriors sent against them," she answered. She then frowned. "We didn't yet truly understand them..."
Wraith
The girl listened closely from where she sat, her eyes going from one person to another as they answered the questions presented. So the dragons hadn't always been viewed as a good thing then? she wondered, tapping her chin with a finger thoughtfully.

Gideon quickly took his seat next to the boy that has sat away from everyone else, not wanting him to feel left out. He listened intently, trying to keep notes in his brain. All of this sounded vaguely familiar from stories his mother had told him when he was younger. He was eager to answer questions, but at the same time was grateful he hadn't been called on as he wasn't quite sure of the answer. Not that it mattered, he would give his best and most confident guess no matter what the teacher asked. He wasn't really one to be shy.
