She'd talked with Lady Utenga the day the eggs were laid, and five days had now passed. That morning, the Trainees had each been slipped a piece of parchment under their doors telling them to report to the Wallows that afternoon. Ymaara stood in front of the entrance, waiting to intercept them before they stepped food into the Wallows without knowing proper procedure.
Inside, Renae was relaxed, with the two eggs from the ship closest to her. The other eggs were also nearby, a total of nine in all. They were simple mottled eggs, some white with black, some with brown, and others looked pale grey because of the coloring. There were two smaller eggs that were completely black, as well as one larger egg that was so brown it looked dark red.
But they weren't going inside yet. They had to be told what to do first. After all, Gryphon clutches were incredibly different from dragon Clutches.

Zakaa opted to show up out of his own volition, smiling as he stepped out of the shadows and stood next to Ymaara. "Good afternoon," he said with a bright smile and his eyes sparkling in amusement. "How are you and Renae today, Ymaara?" he asked. "I heard that the unBonded trainees were being called today from a little birdie, thinking of introducing them to the eggs?" He lounged even as he stood there, a thumb from each hand looped around his belt as he surveyed the area around them.

Quiera had received the note with glee, and she had had to fight to keep herself occupied with classes and Archery Practice before the afternoon came into being. Choosing to keep her SunStaff in her room, she had her two Yandorei with her, one curled like an opalescent necklace about her throat and one coiled about her arm like a blood red armband. Taking two Runes with her, one for protection from the sunlight and one as a gift for Ymaara-assuming she could use it-she padded to the Wallows, inclining her head to Ymaara and Zakaa as she reached them. A very faint golden glow surrounded her, a product of the Defensive Rune that she'd been unable to figure out how to make disappear, and gave her a strangely ethereal look that was entirely unintentional and that she hoped they would understand was not meant to try and impress them.

Ymaara smiled when Zakaa was the first to show. "Yes. Today is the introduction day. But everyone needs to know proper procedure before that happens."
Quiera came next. And Ymaara couldn't help but laugh at the glow around her. "You should go to one of the magic specialists later. They should be able to help you take care of that." Then there was the other boy. The one who had helped rescue her.
Aldric stood in the back as the rest of the unBonded came to see the Gryphon eggs. He nodded at Ymaara. acknowledging her without saying a word. She nodded back.
"Alright. Now that everyone's gathered, it's time for you to start learning about Gryphon lifestyle," she said, voice much less familiar. "You will follow me into the Nest, or the Wallows as you call them here, and I will go to stand by Renae. Only then are you allowed to walk through the eggs. There are nine Gryphon eggs, seven of which are hers." She looked over at Quiera again. "Normally you wouldn't be allowed to be introduced to the eggs like that, but seeing as we have so few Trainees at the moment, I'll let it slide this time." Emerald sat on the floor next to Ymaara's feet, behaving surprisingly well for a kitten. "When you walk among the eggs, you will allow your fingers to touch the shells, but for no longer than a few minutes, at absolute most. This is simply so the Gryphon hatchlings will have a better idea of who they want to Bond to when they hatch. After this, you are not to return unless escorted either by myself or the Dragonlady or Dragon Lord. No trainees are allowed near the Gryphon eggs alone. Do I make myself clear?"
She waited for responses before continuing. "Gryphons are nothing like the Dragons you've all been studying. When the eggs hatch, you will not be allowed inside until ALL of the eggs have hatched. Only then will you be allowed to see the hatchlings for the first time. Of course, I will go over this again later, before Hatching Day. So don't worry if you don't remember Hatching Day procedures. Now... Is everyone ready?"

She blinked, a little confused by what she meant by 'like that.' After a moment of thought, she could only assume it had something to do with her magic, and she resisted the urge to sigh, annoyed for the first time in her life by her inability to walk in the sunlight without the defensive rune or her Sunstaff. Her little ones both crooned and Aleeri raised her head to rub her muzzle against Quiera's cheek, Aridor rising from his crouch to shift his posture upwards and nuzzle her chin. Soothed by the pair, she listened intently, taking mental notes. So they didn't get to see the babies until the excitement of the actual HATCHING was over? That was half of the thrill, the suspense as one waited to see hints, clues, as to what lay in each individual egg, the guessing and bets about which egg would hatch what. Ah well, she thought. New creature, new rules, even if she found them a bit interesting.
